BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A man has been charged with DUI manslaughter after a crash that killed an Orlando woman in October, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened at 12:30 a.m. Oct. 10 on State Road 407, one mile west of Interstate 95 in Brevard County.
Troopers said Keith Pumphrey, 22, of Melbourne, was traveling east on S.R. 407 as Keri DeMott, 20, of Orlando, was traveling west. Pumphrey traveled into the westbound lanes and the front of his Honda Pilot struck the front of DeMott’s Honda CRV, troopers said.
DeMott was pronounced dead by a medical examiner, FHP said. Pumphrey was taken to Holmes Regional Hospital in critical condition and later transferred to a rehabilitation center in Jacksonville. FHP said Pumphrey’s blood alcohol level was at .132 percent at the time of the crash.
Troopers traveled Wednesday to Jacksonville to arrest Pumphrey for DeMott’s death, according to FHP. He was arrested at a rehabilitation center and taken to the Brevard County Jail.
Pumphrey was charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, driving while license suspended and causing a death and DUI property damage, according to FHP’s report.
